CSR is the recognition that a business is inextricably intertwined with society and the earth, and that it must take responsibility for its actions in regard to the “triple bottom line” of people, planet, and profit. The British Standards definition of sustainability is ‘An enduring and balanced approach to environmental responsibility, economic activity and social progress’, and MPI recognises that CSR is important in achieving sustainability. It is a business’ responsibility to deliver sustainability to all their stakeholders (stakeholders include staff, clients, supply chain and the local community - to name but a few).
CSR and sustainability is also about more than just the environment and ‘being green’; although the environmental impact of an event is important, it is also key to consider the wider social and economic issues. Not only do responsible approaches help build brand and reputation, they also help to strengthen the community and marketplace.
A variety of reference and educational materials will be available here and we would very much welcome your thoughts, advice and best practice tips to share with the MPI UK community. MPI’s global website already hosts a great deal of valuable information on CSR – www.mpiweb.org/sustainability – why don’t you join the group and add your voice to the conversations taking place.
